Most crypto projects tie their token to speculation — the token is worth something because people hope it will be worth more later. PTC Coin was designed differently. Every PTC token has one specific, concrete purpose: registering and protecting one creative project on the blockchain.
That’s it. One token, one protected work. No speculation required.
Why a Token Model for IP Registration?
IP registration has always had a cost — court filing fees, solicitor time, CIPO registration charges. But for most independent creators, these costs are either too high or too slow. A musician who creates 50 tracks a year can’t afford $65 CAD per song through CIPO.
PTC Coin’s token model was designed to solve this with three goals:
- Accessibility — a single registration should cost less than a coffee
- Speed — a blockchain timestamp should happen in seconds, not weeks
- Sustainability — the token creates a self-funding cycle that keeps the platform running
How the Token Economy Works
1. You earn tokens Every creator receives 5 PTC tokens when they join the platform. That’s five free registrations — enough to protect your most important works before spending anything.
2. You spend tokens Each time you register a creative work, one PTC token is deducted from your balance. The token funds the gas fee for the Polygon L2 timestamp, the certificate generation, and the platform’s operating costs.
3. You buy more tokens When your balance runs low, you top up with one of three token packs:
| Pack | Tokens | Price (CAD) | Per Registration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 token | ~$2 | ~$2.00 |
| Creator | 5 tokens | ~$8 | ~$1.60 |
| Studio | 20 tokens | ~$25 | ~$1.25 |
Studio creators and agencies get the best rate — the more you create, the cheaper each protection becomes.
Why Polygon (Layer 2)?
PTC Coin runs on Polygon, an Ethereum Layer 2 network. Here’s why that matters:
- Low gas fees — a transaction on Polygon costs fractions of a cent, versus dollars or more on Ethereum mainnet. That’s what makes sub-$2 registrations possible.
- Ethereum-level security — Polygon checkpoints its state to Ethereum, so your timestamp inherits Ethereum’s security model.
- Permanence — blockchain timestamps cannot be altered or deleted. The record of your work’s existence on that date is permanent.
- Transparency — every transaction is publicly verifiable. Anyone can check your certificate against the blockchain record.
It is worth being clear: a blockchain timestamp is not the same as copyright. Copyright exists the moment a Canadian creator makes an original work. What a timestamp does is create tamper-evident evidence of when you made it — which can be decisive in disputes about who created something first.
The Referral Loop
PTC Coin’s growth is designed to benefit creators, not just the platform. When you refer another creator:
- They receive 5 free starter tokens
- You receive bonus tokens when they complete their first registration
- The more creators on the platform, the more diverse the registry becomes — which makes the Discover page more valuable for everyone
This is intentional: the referral reward is tied to a registration action, not just sign-up. That means the rewards flow when real value is created.
For Creators With Disabilities
The token model was specifically designed with disabled creators in mind. Traditional IP registration often requires:
- Multiple in-person or phone appointments
- Complex legal forms
- Fees that are unaffordable on a fixed income or part-time creative schedule
PTC Coin’s model requires:
- A file upload
- A one-click registration
- Tokens priced at less than a bus fare
Founding Members — the first 50 creators to join — lock in the Creator Pro rate forever. That means the lowest per-registration cost, regardless of how prices evolve as the platform grows.
What the Token Is Not
To be direct: PTC is a utility token, not a financial investment. Its value is measured in protected works, not market price. We deliberately avoid the language of speculation, APY, staking, and “to the moon.”
If that sounds boring — good. Boring infrastructure is what creators actually need. A hammer’s value isn’t that it might be worth more tomorrow; it’s that it drives nails today.
Your creative work is worth protecting. PTC Coin is the hammer.
